If you need to earn fast cash, selling household items online is the easiest way to do it. Here are 20 things in your home that you can sell right now.

If you’re feeling strapped for cash and looking for a way to bring in some extra money every month, you may not need to look any further than your own home. You probably have tons of items that you’re no longer using that you could sell for a profit.

Most people had to sell items on Craig’s List or host a garage sale to make some extra money in the past. But thanks to Amazon, Facebook Marketplace, and other online marketplaces, selling unwanted items is easier than ever.

Not only will selling the things you don’t need any more help you earn some extra cash, but purging can free up some much-needed space in your home. So if you’re ready to get started, here are 20 things you can sell right now.

1. Books

If you’ve got stacks of books that are collecting dust in your basement, why not sell them on a site like BookScouter.com? After you enter the ISBN, you’ll receive a quote for the books, and if the titles are in demand, you can ship them for free. Most sites pay via check or PayPal.

2. Clothing

Many of you already know that I love selling old clothes online. I like using sites like Mercari, which makes the process very simple. To get started, you’ll download the app, sign up, and begin listing your items for free. You’ll earn more if you have brand name clothes to sell.

3. Old baby clothes/gear

If you’re past the baby stage but haven’t gotten rid of all the old clothes and gear, you could make some money selling these items online. You have a lot of options when it comes to how to do this. You may be able to make a bit more by listing these items on Facebook Marketplace and selling them to a local parent.

4. Electronics

If you recently upgraded your phone or laptop, you can sell your old electronics online. You can sign up for a site like Gazelle, choose which items you’re looking to get rid of, and receive a quote within minutes.

5. Jewelry

Most of us probably have old jewelry stuffed in a drawer somewhere that we never use. Why not sell it to someone who will appreciate it? You can quickly sell these items on Amazon or eBay.

6. Unwanted gift cards

Now that the holidays are over, do you find yourself with tons of gift cards that you know you’ll never use? Instead of letting them go to waste, you can sell them on Cardpool and receive 88% cashback.

7. Furniture

If you have furniture you’d like to get rid of you can easily sell it on Facebook Marketplace or eBay. And since furniture is always an in-demand item, you’ll likely be able to sell these items fairly quickly.

8. Musical instruments

If you have an old guitar, flute, violin, or any other musical instruments lying around, you can sell them for a nice profit. Many parents don’t want to buy these items new and are looking for a deal online.

9. Your wedding dress

I know some of you may not want to sell your wedding dress for sentimental reasons. But if you’re tired of letting it collect dust in your closet, you could earn a nice profit by selling it on a site like StillWhite.com.

10. Antiques

Again, there may be certain antiques you don’t want to sell for sentimental reasons. But if you have a large number of items that you don’t need, you could make good money selling them online. However, the amount you receive will depend on how rare these items are.

11. Video games

Don’t throw out those old video games your kids no longer play! You can sell these games on sites like Decluttr.com. And most of these sites offer free shipping to sellers.

12. Kitchen appliances

It’s easy to find yourself overwhelmed with kitchen appliances that you never use. Do you really need an air fryer, crockpot, InstaPot, and breadmaker? If you’re looking to free up some room in your kitchen, you can sell these appliances on Facebook Marketplace.

13. Bikes or scooters

If your kids have outgrown their old bikes and scooters, you can sell these items on Craiglist. There is always a parent looking to buy a new bike or scooter for their kids.

14. Holiday decorations

Who doesn’t love putting up holiday decorations every year? But unfortunately, these items tend to collect over the years and take up valuable storage space in your home. You can get rid of some of this stuff on Amazon or eBay.

15. Textbooks

Remember how much we all hated buying textbooks in college? They always cost a fortune, and you knew you’d never use them past the semester. Fortunately, you can sell these items on sites like BookScouter.com and make some of that money back.

16. Handmade goods

Are you a pretty crafty person who regularly knits or makes other homemade items? You could start a nice side business by selling these items on Etsy.

17. Appliances and appliance parts

Suppose you have old appliances, like a washer, dryer, or refrigerator. In that case, you can sell them and make some extra money. CraigsList or Facebook Marketplace is a good option for finding local sellers. Just make sure to add photos and be honest about the current condition of your appliance.

18. Old backpacks

Do you have old backpacks that are still in reasonably good shape? If so, you can sell them on Facebook Marketplace or eBay.

19. Sporting equipment

If your kids have been active in sports over the years, you probably have sporting equipment lying around that you don’t need anymore. Soccer balls, hockey sticks, baseball mitts, and basketball goals are all items that people need.

20. Tools

If you have old tools lying around that you don’t use anymore, you can sell these items. Everyone needs tools at some point, so they will likely sell pretty fast. You’ll earn more if you have larger gas-powered tools to sell.

Bottom Line

Most people think they need to become a DoorDash driver or offer freelance services on the side to earn extra money. But you can make some quick cash just by selling the things in your home that you don’t need anymore. Just make sure you put the money you earn to good use, like saving it in a CIT Savings Builder account.
