Recipe type: Dessert
Serves: 24
Ingredients
  • ½ cub butter, softened
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup and 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • ½ teaspoon cornstarch (optional)
Instructions
STEP ONE
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Beat butter, vanilla, and sugar with an electric mixer on medium speed until fluffy.
  3. Add egg, beat until blended.
STEP TWO
  1. Combine flour and salt; slowly add to butter mixture. Beat just until blended. Do not over mix.
STEP THREE
  1. Flatten dough into a disk and cover with cling wrap. Chill in the freezer for 10 minutes.
STEP FOUR
  1. Place chilled dough on a lightly floured surface, and roll to ⅛-inch thickness. Cut with cookie cutter of your choice. For this recipe, I used a 2.5-inch Christmas Tree cookie cutter.
  2. Place cookies 1-inch apart on a lightly greased baking sheet.
  3. Repeat this procedure with any remaining dough.
STEP FIVE
  1. Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 10-12 minutes, or until the bottom of the cookies are lightly browned.
  2. Let cool for about 15 minutes or until completely cooled.
  3. Decorate as desired.
Notes
If your dough is sticking or is too soft when rolling it out, chill for another 5 minutes. It's easier to use the cookie cutters when the dough is slightly cold.
